Caroline's idea about the visit:
It is a honor to be one of the young professionals invited to accompany the Minister of foreign affairs (Maxime Verhagen) of The Netherlands during his official visit to Saudi Arabia and Qatar. This is an excellent opportunity for me to learn more about international relation between these countries and the Netherlands.
During 2007 I worked for the dredging company Royal Boskalis Westminster in Qatar involved in the Ras Laffan port expansion project. Ever since I admire the incredible developments in the Middle East.
In September 2008 I started working for the Port of Rotterdam as project manager Infrastructure. I’m realizing that cooperation between government and companies leads to excellent solutions. This inspires me to learn more about international relations.
The Port of Ras Laffan and the Port of Rotterdam both are world class energy ports. As Ras Laffan is an export harbour and Rotterdam an import harbour, cooperation can result in large opportunities for both.
The topics Energy, Human Rights, Public Safety and Investments will be emphasized during the visit. I am very interested in the vision of the Saudi Arabia and Qatar on energy. What is their strategy in the enormous demand on their oil and LNG? And what are their ideas about renewable energy?
